Super Curriculum
What is a Super Curriculum?
Super curricular activities are those that extend your knowledge of the curriculum beyond the traditional classroom and homework. They enable you to explore your subjects, interests, or new areas in greater depth, while building your confidence, cultural capital, and academic independence.
How do I access the Super Curriculum?
These activities are often in the form of extra reading (journals, books, articles, newspapers), but they can take many other forms, such as watching videos or films, listening to podcasts, attending lectures, visiting museums, completing a MOOC, or entering academic competitions.
Why should you engage in the Super Curriculum?
The Super Curriculum encourages a love of learning in your chosen subjects and develops a thirst for knowledge. It allows you to make sophisticated connections between different areas of study and apply your cultural capital to exploring new topics.
In the future, employers and universities will be interested to hear about the super curricular activities you have undertaken, what you have learned, and how you have gone beyond the curriculum. This will also support your personal statement by allowing you to demonstrate your suitability for courses or roles.
