Special educational needs & disabilities
The Pingle Academy works with staff from a variety of external agencies across the range of SEND:
1. Learning Support Base (LSB) − caters for students with significant special needs with an EHCP. A placement in the LSB is flexible, can be long/short term, full/part time dependent on the need. Please click here to go to our LSB page.
2. Autism Resource Centre (ARC) − all students have a diagnosis and EHCP for autism. Students access mainly mainstream lessons with support and follow a social skills programme. Please click here to go to our ARC page.
3. Mainstream – Students are exposed to highly differentiated, robust quality first teaching and reasonable adjustments are made to ensure the inclusion of all students. Where necessary clearly identified strategies and interventions are recommended for students to address their additional needs. Interventions are tailored to individual needs and aim to have a positive impact on students' learning. They take place in a 1:1 or small group setting and their impact is monitored half termly.
Year 6 SEND students take part in our enhanced transition programme in order to become familiar with our Academy.
All EHCPs are reviewed annually, progress monitored half-termly and shared with parents three times per year.
At Year 9, transition reviews are held to start to plan for post 16 provisions with specialist careers advisors.
Students in Year 10 have the opportunity to take up a work experience placement.
In order to make appropriate progress students with SEND are included in all the activities of the Academy as far as is practical and have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which includes the National Curriculum. Access arrangements for public examinations are arranged and alternative personalised programmes are provided as needs arise.
